Red - Colour Explained

No colour in the spectrum catches the eye more than red does. It is the colour of fire, love, heat, war, blood, desire and a whole lot more. The list is endless when it comes to this rouge shade. It is the most noticeable primary colour. Where blue is cool, red is hot and where yellow is cheery, red is passionate. It has been the inspiration for many a poet. The red shade of a lover’s lips, the crimson of a robin’s chest, the red apple that spelled the end for a fairytale heroine and more.

Red is the colour of love. It fills shop windows during the month of February. Everywhere you go, you are reminded that the world is in love. Paper cupids hang on fishing lines above your head reminding you of the need to go to the nearest bookshop and get a valentines card and pop by the flower shop for a bouquet of red roses. Other than denoting amore, red is also the colour that signifies danger, it tells those who see it to proceed with caution and be aware of their surroundings. It is also the colour of war and bloodshed.

This shade is both a masculine and feminine favorite. Men may not buy as much red business suits and shoes as women buy red dresses and heels, but red is the colour of choice for the most coveted cars and bikes. There is a reason why the Italian Stallion of the racing world is red. It’s because the manufacturers know that no other colour other than red can make the blood pressure rise and heart beat faster.
