Orange - Colour Explained

Orange is a very hot colour, though not as hot as red, but hot enough that is why it is also used to represent fire in some instances. It is the result of the mix between the heat of red and the cheeriness of yellow; the result being a colour that stands out brightly among other shades, but blends in effortlessly with its’ parent tones. Orange is said to have a positive physiological effect on the body and is believed to assist in increasing the oxygen supply to the brain. This colour also represents endurance and strength. It is a great ‘pick-me-up’ colour and is often used by energy food and drink companies to advertise their products. Orange also has a deep richness; it is the colour of pumpkin, citrus fruits, the turning leaves of autumn and of a bountiful harvest. Orange can also be made to represent gold, which is the ultimate shade of wealth and high quality.

This colour is always highly visible and is often used to highlight items of importance. Road workers wear orange vests and jumpsuits to make them visible during the day and at night. Neon orange is popular among the younger set and is often seen in club vistas. The staying power of orange in the world of fashion is a love/hate affair. Sometimes it is the ‘in’ colour, but it can turn into a fashion don’t as quickly as it was accepted and then back again.
